voyeurism in an online world

over the course of two years i used an avatar representation of myself in the online world, Second Life, to assume the role of voyeur. the purpose of this excercise was to create images that emulated the genre of upskirt photography. by surreptitiously extracting images of other avatars in what would be innapropriate ways in the real world, the project conflated the idea of self in an online one.

these images explore themes of voyeurism, vanity, sexuality and gender roles through graphic representations of the self in an online space. they beg answers to the questions: are they vulgar? are they an invasion or personal privacy? or are they just images of computer graphics, a video game. blown up, and pulled out of context they venture into the territory of large abstract paintings made from representations of some of the most intimate areas of the body.
